I began my Quest in December of 2009 to lose a couple pounds and take my fitness to the next level as well as to try to turn back the clock a little. So I ordered the much talked about and often reviewed P90 X program to use as my main motivator for working out. I saw the infomercial on TV and thought, man those people who bought the program and followed the work outs really did drop the weight and got in really great shape.
I placed my P90X order and promptly received the DVD set, the work out sheets and the meal plan and I picked My "D-Day" to begin my program and my transformation. The first Quick tidbit of information that will help you get the most form the program is that you should look over the work out sheets of your chosen program before you begin your work out's, this way you can be sure you have all the necessary items handy to use your work out time as efficiently as possible.

Now the first work out in the program is the Chest and back program. Now I admit I am in the gym or weight room quite often working hard to get to a better level of fitness so I am no stranger to the gym. I found the first P90 X routine fun, invigorating, and went by fast, Tony's warm up routine is fun and helps to get your body ready for the difficulties of the main work out. However, for many of the people I see and work with at the gym everyday who want to work out more and get fit, this Chest and back routine would be too difficult and could lead to injury too. Getting hurt doing a new routine or program is the last thing I or any other fitness instructor would want you to do so here a few small modifications I recommend that will help you to enjoy this routine.
1. Push ups- Don't stress if you can't do a bunch right away, push up's are hard the elbows & shoulders so start with your knees on the ground if you have to and work you way up to doing them the old fashion way. Your Elbows will thank you.
2. Chin Up's- Always use a chair to support yourself to start with. Again, if you haven't seen the inside of a gym in a while, don't sweat it. Start slow and use a chair the whole time if you have to, just doing it should be your accomplishment in the first week.
3. Lawn Mowers- Don't use any weight for your first few times thru the Chest and Back routine, the Idea is to begin slow and work you way up. Some sort of power bands would be of good use for this too.
4. Dive Bomber Push up's- If you have trouble with the regular push up's either skip these all together or do a modified version. Simply hold your rear in the air and put your chin to the ground and slowly shift your weight forward until you are square over your shoulders, then repeat the process.
So there you have it, 4 simple modifications to help you get on track and stay on track to reach your fitness goals.
